Let me tell y’all something…I’d say compared to a lot of people, my upbringing was fairly low pressure when it came to relationships. My parents wanted me to be happy and any mention about that whether in church or at family gatherings was very passive. I never got the whole “so when are we getting grandchildren?” questions from people. Despite that…despite all of that…I’m constantly poisoned by this…I legit think I’m not worth anything because I’m 25 and single…I learned how to cook something the other day and my first thought was “yay now I’m more wife material” instead of “yay I can make healthy food for myself”. I think I still want marriage but it’s hard to know whether I actually want it or feel it’s required. Some days I legit wish my parents would just arrange a marriage so I can start a family while I still can. All of this just from exposure from society and no real pressure from inner circle…imagine girls that have that constant pressure. It’s terrifying.
Y’all I live in Japan now. It’s referring to Gudetama (ぐでたま) which means “lazy egg”. I have a chair cushion of him and when you flip him over you see his butt

When I was younger, I wish someone had told me straight-up that not all adults experience “a calling”. That many of them never find particular purpose in a career. That sometimes, their job is just what pays the bills and they have to seek satisfaction and fulfillment elsewhere.
Because as an adult, this pervasive notion that there exists a perfect path for everyone, that people should love what they do, and that work is meant to function as a vehicle for fulfilling a person’s grand life destiny is not only inaccurate for many of us, it can be toxic.
The ideal is so ingrained that I have to remind myself constantly I’m not a failure because I don’t adore my job, and because I’m not rocking the world with my work. That is okay.
Sometimes, work is just work. There isn’t always a perfect career path, magically waiting to be discovered. There might not be this THING you were born to do. Sometimes, you discover that what you really want to be when you grow up is “paid”.
Thank God, someone more eloquent than me put it into words.
I also wanna add that you are allowed to like your job without having a passion for it. I studied teaching in college and I kept beating myself up because many of my peers made it their livelihood and I thought I was wasting time because I didn’t do it. Like, if you do have a passion for a job, good for you, but don’t say someone can’t like a job without that passion.
